East of Scotland Winter Squads

What are they?

Winter squads are setup to purely provide East of Scotland tennis players, from indoor and outdoor clubs, the opportunity to play indoor tennis over the winter months.  This is a fantastic chance for players who otherwise wouldn't be playing regularly over the winter months, as well as additional coaching for players currently in indoor squads. 

Our aim is to provide higher quality, structured and organised winter programme for players.  This will be done through our experience as coaches, and from player and parental feedback during the 08/09 winter squads' period.  It is important that we can work to deliver a product that meets everyone's needs and aspirations.

Squads Pathway in East of Scotland Tennis

As you can see there are two strands to the east squads, Satellite and Futures. The Futures squad look at catering for the top 8 rated players applying for squads. The satellite squad look at catering for the players below this. It is important to bare in minds that by taking part in the east squads doesn't automatically mean you will play for you county.

County Invite Selection Days - The aim of these match-play sessions is to select the players that will represent the county in the upcoming county weekends. Players are selected from both Performance squads (e.g. Craiglockhart and Merchiston) and East Futures squads. The basis of initial selection to the invite days is ratings/rankings and current form, being in the East Futures Squad does guaranteed a place at the invite days

 Every players goal is to improve their rating, so through east winter box leagues each player has a great opportunity to compete and lower their rating (as all matches will be forwarded to the LTA ) over the winter months. Each squad will have their own box league with the top player in each box league being eligible to play up in the next squad's box league. The leagues will run over the 2 blocks of squads.
